Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

This page sets out how information may be handled in connection with this site and its services, and the terms on which those services are made available. Part One covers privacy; Part Two covers use of the site.

Part One — Privacy

1. Scope

This policy may apply to this website, to any mobile application we publish, and to any service, feature, page, form, account, subscription, event or transaction that we provide now or may provide in future (together, the “Services”). By accessing or using the Services, you are taken to agree to this page.

Parts of the Services may operate differently from one another. In relation to the mobile application we currently publish, the sections below on automatic collection, cookies and third parties refer to services that require a connection. Later versions, or other applications, may operate differently, in which case the disclosures made for that version on the relevant application store apply.

2. Information that may be collected

Information you provide. Information you may submit through any form, message, account registration, subscription, survey, event, enquiry or transaction, which may include a name or alias, email address, messaging or social account identifier, telephone number, postal or billing address, the content of submissions and correspondence, images, files and other material you choose to send.

Applications and enquiries submitted through forms on this site are received, retained, forwarded or answered by this site.

Information collected automatically. Information that may be generated when the Services are used, such as IP address, device and browser characteristics, operating system, language, referring URL, pages and items viewed, links and controls interacted with, time and duration of access, advertising identifiers, approximate location derived from an IP address, and data generated by cookies and similar technologies.

Information from third parties. Information that may be received from advertising, analytics, hosting, payment, messaging and social platforms, from business partners, and from publicly available sources.

3. How information may be used

Information may be used to operate, maintain, secure and improve the Services; to provide and personalise content and features; to develop new services; to select, deliver, measure and improve advertising; to carry out analytics, research and statistical work; to communicate about updates, offers and services; to review, edit and publish submissions; to help prevent fraud, abuse and unauthorised access; to establish, exercise or defend legal claims; to meet legal requirements; and for other purposes reasonably related to the above or notified at the time of collection.

Aggregated, anonymised or de-identified data may be created from information collected through the Services, and may be used, disclosed, licensed or otherwise commercialised for any purpose without the restrictions in this page.

4. Cookies and advertising

This site may display third-party advertising. Google and other third-party vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on prior visits to this or other websites.

5. Analytics and measurement

Cookie settings

Basic traffic is counted automatically on the server. Page, broad referral, device and country categories are aggregated separately; recognized automated requests are counted separately. The owner may voluntarily set a browser marker so the owner's views are counted separately and excluded from ordinary totals. Apart from that marker, this layer does not set cookies, retain IP addresses, assign visitor identifiers or reconstruct individual browsing journeys. Minute counters are retained for 48 hours and daily totals for historical comparisons. Random delivery receipts used only to prevent duplicate counting expire after 10 minutes and are removed by scheduled maintenance. Cloudflare processes the underlying network requests.

Analytics and measurement services, which may be operated by third parties, may be used to understand how the Services are used and to improve them and the advertising shown on them.

Aggregate site statistics also automatically count foreground reading time, card draws, sharing and outbound-click categories per page and day. They do not assign visitor identifiers, link activity across pages or read cookies or browser storage. Birthdays, form text, URL parameters, full referring URLs and raw IP addresses are not stored in these statistics. Random delivery IDs prevent duplicate delivery only; they expire after 10 minutes and are removed by scheduled maintenance. Daily totals are retained for historical comparisons.

Google Analytics is subject to Google's data practices. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it loads only after consent; elsewhere it may run by default and can be switched off at any time. Declining does not prevent browsing or using cards. “Cookie settings” on this page or in the footer allows the choice to be changed or withdrawn; Global Privacy Control keeps it disabled. These choices do not disable the separate aggregate counters. Previously consented detailed site records remain subject to their 90-day retention period and are not mixed into the new aggregate reports.

6. When information may be shared

Information may be shared with service providers and contractors acting on our behalf; with advertising, analytics, hosting, payment and communications partners; with professional advisers; with competent authorities, courts and regulators where this is considered appropriate or is required; where it appears necessary to protect rights, property, safety or interests, whether ours or those of others; and, in connection with any merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, insolvency or transfer of assets, with the counterparty and its advisers, in which case the information may transfer along with the business.

7. International transfers

Information may be stored or processed in any country in which we or our service providers operate, and may therefore be transferred outside the place where you are located.

8. Retention

Information may be kept for as long as it remains useful for the purposes described on this page, or for the period required or permitted by applicable law, whichever is longer.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights in relation to your personal data, such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability. Requests may be made using the contact details below. Identity may need to be verified before a response is given, and, to the extent permitted by law, a reasonable fee may be charged for, or a response declined to, requests that appear manifestly unfounded, repetitive or excessive.

10. Readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom

Where required, a consent notice is shown before non-essential cookies are set, and consent may be refused or withdrawn at any time through the same notice.

11. Children

The Services are not directed at children under 13, and personal data is not knowingly collected from them. If we become aware that such data has been collected, it will be deleted.

12. Third-party links and services

The Services may link to or include third-party sites and services, to which those parties own practices apply. We are not responsible for their content or practices.

13. Security

Measures considered reasonable are taken to protect information. No method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and absolute security is not warranted.

Part Two — Terms of Use

14. Content you send us

When you send content to us through any channel, you are taken to grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable and sub-licensable licence to use, host, store, reproduce, adapt, edit, translate, excerpt, publish, display, distribute and otherwise make use of that content in any medium and for any purpose, including promotional and commercial purposes, without further notice, attribution or payment. You confirm that you hold the rights needed to give that licence and that the content does not infringe any third-party right. Submissions may be edited, declined, removed or retained at our discretion.

15. Copyright and scope of licence

Ownership. Text, headings, images, diagrams, compilations of data, layout, the arrangement and explanation of the checking methods, and code on the Services are works of this site or its licensors. We reserve the rights to reproduce, adapt, edit, publicly transmit, publicly display, distribute and license others to use that material.

Welcome without asking us first. Quoting within reasonable limits with attribution and a clickable link; sharing links to our pages; and crawling, indexing, summarising and citing this material by search engines and generative AI assistants, with the source shown.

Please obtain our written consent first. Full or substantial reproduction or republication; publishing rewritten, recombined or translated versions; removing or altering attribution and source; commercial reproduction, publication or resale; and building a database or dataset from this material for onward supply.

Where that occurs. We may request removal, request the publication of a correction, and claim damages under Article 88 of the Copyright Act of Taiwan, including the assessment of damages by the court under paragraph 3 of that Article. Where rights management information attached by us has been removed or altered, we may also rely on the related provisions of that Act. We reserve the right to bring criminal proceedings.

Licensing and reports. For licensing, or to report use that appears to fall outside this section, please write to [email protected].

16. Acceptable use

The Services may not be used in ways that break the law, infringe rights, interfere with normal operation or security, place an unreasonable load on infrastructure, or misrepresent an affiliation with us. Access may be limited or withdrawn where use appears to fall outside these terms.

17. Accounts, subscriptions and paid features

Accounts, subscriptions, memberships and paid features may be introduced at any time. Where they are, additional terms may be published for them, and those terms will apply alongside this page.

18. Advertising, sponsorship and listings

The Services may include advertising, sponsored placements, affiliate links and listings of third parties. Such material is identified where required. Inclusion of a third party does not amount to a warranty about that party, and any dealings with them are between you and them.

19. No professional advice

Material on the Services is general information. It is not medical, legal, financial or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for testing, certification or examination by a qualified laboratory or professional. Decisions that matter should be taken with appropriate professional input.

20. Availability and changes

The Services may be changed, suspended or discontinued in whole or in part at any time, and this page may be updated from time to time. Updates take effect once posted here, and continued use of the Services after that is taken as acceptance of them.

21. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, warranties of any kind are excluded, and no liability is accepted for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive loss or damage arising from the Services or from reliance on their content. Nothing on this page limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

22. Indemnity

Where a claim, loss or expense arises from your use of the Services, from content you submit, or from a breach of this page, you agree to hold us harmless in respect of it, to the extent permitted by law.

23. General

If any provision on this page is found unenforceable, the remainder continues to apply. A delay in exercising a right is not a waiver of it. This page, together with any additional terms published for a particular feature, forms the whole of the agreement about the Services.

24. Governing law

This page is governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the parties agree that the Taiwan Taipei District Court is the court of first instance for disputes arising from it, without affecting mandatory rights available under the law of your place of residence.

25. Contact

Questions about this page can be sent through the contact details on the About page.
